Tanning
De-Tan Skincare Clay Face Pack and Face Masks: Visible Results from First Use
What is skin tanning?
Skin tanning is the skin's natural response to ultraviolet (UV) exposure. When exposed to sunlight, the skin produces more melanin to protect itself, causing it to appear darker. Unlike permanent changes in skin tone, tanning mainly affects the outer layers of the skin and may gradually fade with proper skincare and sun protection.
What causes skin tanning?
Several everyday factors contribute to tanning, including:
- UV rays from sun exposure
- Long or repeated time spent outdoors
- Pollution
- Sweat
- Dead skin buildup
- Lack of sunscreen
Can tanning be removed?
A suntan is usually temporary and can gradually fade as the skin naturally renews itself. Gentle exfoliation, brightening ingredients such as rice extract, glycolic acid and licorice, along with consistent sunscreen use, can help improve the appearance of tanning. Deep pigmentation caused by hormonal or medical conditions requires different treatment.
Why De-Tan Skincare
De-tan skincare refers to products designed to remove dead skin cells, cleanse impurities and improve the appearance of sun-induced tanning, revealing brighter-looking skin underneath. De-tan products do not bleach the skin or permanently change its natural skin tone.
Sun exposure, pollution and daily grime can leave skin looking dull and tanned over time. De-tan skincare is designed to exfoliate dead skin, reduce the appearance of tanning and bring back a brighter, more even looking complexion.
De-tan products work best when paired with a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher). Without daily sun protection, new tanning can develop even after exfoliation.
Why Ricekraft Facemask and Facepack for De-Tan
Our De-Tan Face Pack and Scrub is a 2-in-1 formula that exfoliates dead skin and visibly reduces tanning from first use, leaving skin soft with a glass skin glow.
For a more targeted option, the De-Tan and Acne Care Matcha Face Mask brightens skin, reduces tan, tackles acne and blemishes, and detoxifies from dirt and oil buildup.
Both are inspired by Korean skincare rituals and made for Indian skin, giving a quick, visible glow without the use of bleach. The Face Pack and Scrub is best suited for a fast glow through exfoliation, while the Matcha Mask is built for deeper cleansing using encapsulated Salicylic Acid for controlled release.
Why Ricekraft Sunscreen
Our SPF 50+ Sunscreen with Rice and Hyaluronic Acid offers broad-spectrum UVA and UVB protection with a PA++++ rating, so it works alongside your de-tan routine to help prevent new tanning while treating existing tan. It's formulated with Rice Ferment Filtrate, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E, so it hydrates the skin while protecting it, rather than leaving it dry like many sunscreens can.
It's lightweight, quick absorbing and leaves no white cast, making it comfortable for daily use in Indian weather. It's also non-greasy and fragrance free, making it suitable for oily and acne-prone skin as well as sensitive skin.
How to use: Apply generously on face, neck and other exposed skin at least 15 minutes before stepping out. Reapply every 2 to 3 hours during extended sun exposure.
Ingredients
The De-Tan Face Pack and Scrub is made with Rice Extract, Walnut, Kaolin Clay and Fuller's Earth, a blend of clays and rice extract that helps reduce tan, along with light oils to nourish and keep skin moisturized and glowing.
The De-Tan and Acne Care Matcha Face Mask uses French Green Clay and Kaolin Clay to absorb excess oil and impurities, Matcha for its antioxidant and acne fighting properties, and encapsulated Salicylic Acid to deeply cleanse pores and target acne and breakouts. A Brightening Squad of Glycolic Acid, Oat Extract, Fermented Rice and Licorice helps reduce tan and gives a brighter complexion.
The SPF 50+ Sunscreen is built around Rice Ferment Filtrate, Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin E, along with skin-friendly UV filters for broad-spectrum protection.
How to Use
Use the De-Tan Face Pack and Scrub twice a week, followed by a light moisturizer. Use the De-Tan and Acne Care Matcha Face Mask 2 to 3 times a week, also followed by a light moisturizer. Apply the SPF 50+ Sunscreen daily, generously, at least 15 minutes before sun exposure, and reapply every 2 to 3 hours when outdoors for extended periods.
A patch test is recommended before using either de-tan product. Avoid sun exposure without SPF immediately after exfoliation.
Who Should Use It
Both de-tan products are unisex and suitable for users aged 16 and above. The De-Tan and Acne Care Matcha Face Mask is suitable for all skin types, including acne-prone skin. Scrubbing based products like the De-Tan Face Pack and Scrub are not recommended for acne-prone skin and very sensitive skin. The SPF 50+ Sunscreen is fragrance free and non-greasy, making it suitable for oily, acne-prone and sensitive skin as part of a daily routine.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is skin tanning?
Skin tanning is the skin's natural response to ultraviolet (UV) exposure. When exposed to sunlight, the skin produces more melanin, causing the skin to appear darker. Tanning is usually temporary and may gradually fade as the skin naturally renews itself.
What causes skin tanning?
The most common cause of tanning is exposure to UV rays from the sun. Pollution, heat, and the buildup of dead skin cells can also make the skin appear dull or uneven, making a tan more noticeable.
Can a tan be removed permanently?
Sun-induced tanning usually fades over time as the skin renews itself. De-tan skincare can help reduce the appearance of tanning and brighten the complexion, but continued sun protection is important to help prevent new tanning.
Is de-tan the same as skin whitening?
No. De-tan skincare is intended to reduce the appearance of sun-induced tanning and improve skin radiance. It does not permanently lighten your natural skin tone.
What products should a de-tan routine include?
A basic de-tan routine typically includes an exfoliating product like a face pack or scrub, and daily sunscreen to prevent new tanning while treating existing tan.
Which ingredients are commonly used in de-tan skincare?
Rice extract, clays like Kaolin and French Green Clay, Glycolic acid, and Licorice are commonly used in de-tan skincare products to help exfoliate and brighten the skin.
Is sunscreen important for de-tan skincare?
Yes. Daily sunscreen helps protect the skin from further UV exposure and is considered an essential part of any de-tan routine, since new tanning can develop without it.
How often should I use a de-tan face pack?
Most people can use a de-tan face pack one to three times a week depending on skin type and the product's exfoliating ingredients. Ricekraft's De-Tan Face Pack and Scrub is recommended twice a week, while the De-Tan and Acne Care Matcha Face Mask is recommended 2 to 3 times a week.
Can de-tan products be used on acne-prone skin?
It depends on the formulation. Scrubbing based products aren't generally recommended for acne-prone or very sensitive skin, but clay and Salicylic Acid based masks, like Ricekraft's Matcha Face Mask, can be suitable for acne-prone skin.
Does a de-tan face pack remove permanent pigmentation?
No. De-tan products help reduce the appearance of sun-induced tanning and brighten dull-looking skin. They are not intended to treat medical pigmentation disorders such as melasma.
Do de-tan products bleach the skin?
No. De-tan products are designed to remove dead skin cells and dirt buildup to reveal brighter looking skin underneath, not to bleach or permanently alter natural skin tone.
